4 Trending Summer Activities for Older Kids

Summer Activities

It’s amazing how another school year has zipped right by. Speaking of zipping by, you’re probably already thinking of what activities to plan for the summer, like ziplining or road-tripping it to a beach somewhere. But what other activities are kids interested in these days? We have a few for you to consider, and some of these you can do right at home.

Summer Activities Your Kids Will Love

#1. Scavenger Hunts:

Create a scavenger hunt for your kids, either in your home or around your neighborhood. Scavenger hunts are the perfect activity for kids for many reasons. They give them the opportunity to use problem-solving and teamwork skills, all while getting some exercise along the way. And it’s also great for the person planning the scavenger hunt because they have to use their creativity and brain power to plan out the clues and course.

#2. Good Ol’ Fashion Water Balloon Fights:

This one is an oldie but goodie. Water balloon fights have made their comeback, especially with parents now able to blow up multiple water balloons instantaneously. But before you let the kids go wild, lay down some ground rules about safety. For instance, remind everyone to avoid throwing balloons at windows, cars, or people’s faces.

#3. Archery

Archery is becoming a popular sport amongst tweens and teens. If you don’t have a youth archery center in town, you can purchase a beginner archery set online and set it up outside of your home. Whether you’re opting for a toy archery set or you think your teen and tween is ready for a real set, make sure they’re aware and practice all the safety rules for archery.

#4. Climbing and Ropes Courses

Kids are falling back in love with climbing trees and other outdoor challenges. Less screen time and more outdoor time is better all around for everyone anyway. Many outdoor summer camps, like Girl Scouts camps, now offer tree-climbing and ropes courses for kids. You just have to to do a little research to find the ones that do. These activities will surely test your child’s strength and agility.
