Spring break is just around the corner, which means it’s time to start planning for a week of fun with the kids. Planning on visiting or staying on the island? Then you’ll be happy to know that there are plenty of spring break activities in Galveston for kids to enjoy. If you have a big group with you, we’ve included a lot of free activities so you won’t have to break the bank.
Your 5-Day Calendar of Spring Break Activities in Galveston for Kids
Monday: Go Dolphin Watching!
Take a free 45-minute ride on Galveston’s Port Bolivar Ferry. Folks who’ve taken this ferry ride say they enjoyed the views, feeding birds, and catching a sneak peak of dolphin activity. The port is located at 502 Ferry Rd, Galveston, TX 77550-3146.
Tuesday: Hit the Beach!
What’s spring break without hitting up a beach? Galveston is the perfect place to catch some salt and sun with 32 miles of beachfront to choose from. Some of our favorite beaches include Stewart Beach Park and Beach Pocket Park on the West End. A day at the beach is the perfect opportunity to explain to kids why it’s important to stay hydrated and apply sunscreen frequently.
Wednesday: Visit the New Pirate Museum!
Pirates! Legends of the Gulf Coast Museum showcases a part of Galveston’s rich history that kids are sure to be interested in. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the Gulf of Mexico served as a major port for pirates and privateers. Kids will meet the resident pirates and hear all the legends, myths, and stories about the last Buccaneers.
Thursday: Go Fishing!
Make some long-lasting memories at Galveston Island State Park, where you can fish in the bay area or beachside. As long as you fish from shore, a fishing license isn’t required. Note that you must bring your own fishing rods and canoes/kayaks.
Friday: Walk the Strand
You can’t leave Galveston without a stroll down Galveston’s main strip. The strand is the perfect ending to spring break. Splurge on some souvenirs, and sample some of the many eateries. There are also a few museums in the area to soak in more of the local history.
