Keeping your kiddos entertained during the normal hustle and bustle that each week brings can become challenging. On top of that, there is the added cost of entertainment. A movie and dinner with your family can quickly turn into a $100+ dollar evening. A trip to your local theme park can easily add up to $200+.
Galveston is a great place for families to both live and visit. There are always new exciting things to do, new restaurants to try, and new shops to explore. And as you will see, there is plenty of fun to be had without breaking the bank.
We’ve covered 3 categories that will surely keep you and your children occupied during the duration of quarantine. The selections are either 1) outside or 2) following safety precautions that will ensure you and your family continue to remain safe during the pandemic. Just remember to wear a mask, sanitize regularly, and socially distance yourself.
Looking for places to eat?
Galveston island is having their Restaurant Week from January 8-28, 2024. Celebrate this annual event by visiting one of Galveston’s many local, delicious restaurants.
Galveston is full of delicious food and does not lack variety. Going out to eat can become expensive at times, so here’s your go-to list for family meals that won’t hurt your wallet.
Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. has kids’ meals for $8.49, which includes an entrée, one side, a drink, and Jell-O.
Rainforest Cafe has kids’ meals for $7.99, which includes an entrée, one side, and a drink.
The Spot has kids’ meals for $5.99, which includes an entrée, one side, a drink, and a cookie.
Shrimp n’ Stuff has kids’ meals for $6.59, which includes an entrée, one side, a drink, and a cookie.
Leo’s Cajun Corner has kids’ meals for $4.99, which includes an entrée, chips, and drink.
Seeking entertainment?
With virtual school or hybrid school as the new norm, it can be challenging to keep your kids engaged and entertained. Taking them out to the movies, museums, or to a local hotspot are good ways to keep this challenging time fun.
Galveston Naval Museum has FREE admission for children under 5, $8 admission for children 5–11, and $13 for adults. This is a great way to immerse yourself and your kids into Galveston’s heritage. You can explore the WWII vessels via group tours or self-guided tours.
Pirates of the Gulf Coast offers FREE admission for children under 4, $6.75 for children 5–13, and $10 for adults. This exhibit offers galleries, pirate ships, and a shop full of unique, kid-friendly finds.
Pier 21 Theater offers 3 family-friendly documentaries for FREE for children under 6, $5 for ages 6 to 18 (student ID might be required), $6 for adults. The films that are currently showing are: The Great Storm, The Pirate Island of Jean Laffite, and Galveston – Gateway on the Gulf.
La King’s Confectionery on the Strand offers taffy spinning demonstrations that are fun for everyone to watch. Bonus? The maker tosses samples of fresh taffy out to everyone.
Wanting to play outside?
When your kiddos have an adventurous spirit, it can be challenging to keep up with their energy. Outdoor activities like nature walks or wildlife viewing are ways you can balance their energy while getting some much needed R&R that you deserve. Here are some other great options:
Galveston Island State Park has FREE admission for all children and $5 for adults. This is a great place to enjoy Galveston’s natural beauty by hunting seashells, building sandcastles, or taking a scenic nature walk on bayside trails and boardwalks.
Pleasure Pier is offering a “Kid For a Day” discount from January 1–February 28 where everyone can get an all day pass for only $19.99.
Schlitterbahn has a $49.99 Funday Bundle for admission plus a meal. Spend your day with your kids at a fun water park and treat yourself to the included entrée, side, and fountain drink.
