REGEN-COV: offered same day at all Hospitality Health ER locations

Emerging COVID-19 variants have put many individuals who are unable to make their own antibodies in an understandably tough situation. There is, however, a trusted treatment for individuals who are fighting COVID variants, including the delta variant: REGEN-COV.

This single-dose antibody combination or “cocktail” was created by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and is a combination of 2 antibodies: casirivimab with imdevimab. According to a press release by Regeneron, REGEN-COV has full activity against the delta variant.

The trials and data prove REGEN-COV is tried and trusted:

In a trial conducted by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), patients who were administered 1200 mg of REGEN-COV noticed a significant difference in the severity of their symptoms. In as little as one week, COVID-19 symptoms were reduced by 72%, and in subsequent weeks, by 93%.

“Despite standard precautions to reduce transmission, nearly 10% of unvaccinated individuals living with an infected person developed symptomatic infections if they did not receive REGEN-COV. If authorized, convenient subcutaneous administration of REGEN-COV could help control outbreaks in high-risk settings where individuals have not yet been vaccinated, including individual households and group living settings.

REGEN-COV is the best intervention to keep people out of the hospital with COVID-19, with greater than 80% reduction in hospitalization in those that get a MaB (monoclonal antibody).

Who can receive the REGEN-COV antibody treatment?

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), adults and pediatric patients (who are 12 years of age and older and weigh at least 88 pounds), with positive results of direct SARS-CoV-2 viral testing and who are at high risk of progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death, are eligible for REGEN-COV antibody treatment

High risk patients include:

  • Older age (age ≥65 years)
  • Diseases such as kidney disease, immunosuppressive disease, cardiovascular disease, lung disease, sickle cell disease
  • Neurodevelopmental disorder
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity or being overweight
  • Having a medical-related technological dependence

Where can I get the REGEN-COV antibody treatment?

For those of you located in Galveston, Longview, and Tyler, you’re in luck! The REGEN-COV treatment is offered at all of the Hospitality Health ER locations. In most clinics, you are required to make an appointment at a later date with an infusion clinic. However, at HHER, we offer it at the time of your visit

Hospitality Health ER’s process:

Our team at HHER gives it to qualifying, eligible patients at time of visit, as opposed to most medical facilities who have patients schedule an infusion at a clinic separately. The length of stay per patient is based on their symptoms because the antibody is coupled with our other COVID-19 treatments during their visit. We need to confirm that you tested positive for COVID-19, check labs for contraindications for MaB, and complications of COVID-19. The infusion is given over an hour and then we will monitor the patient for any possible allergic reaction (as required for all medications).

Act fast if you want the REGEN-COV antibody treatment

antibody treatment effective against COVID-19Time is of the essence with this delta variant-fighting treatment. Patients who are in need of the treatment are only eligible to receive it after you have experienced COVID-19 symptoms for 6 days. That’s why a one-stop-job is incredibly important if you are looking to receive the antibody treatment.

If you are experiencing any of the COVID-19 symptoms, schedule your test today. If your results come back positive and you fear future health complications resulting from the coronavirus and/or variants, please visit one of our emergency rooms located in Tyler, Longview, or Galveston.

If you or someone you love qualifies for and is interested in receiving the REGEN-COV treatment, contact Hospitality Health ER today. We are so happy to offer the REGEN-COV  treatment and are even happier to protect your health and prevent hospitalization.
