It’s September and fall is here! As you’re reading this, you’re probably thinking to yourself how fast 2022 has flown by. And we’re right there with you. The Autumn Equinox is fast upon us, and to make the most of the season, we’ve compiled a fun list of activities you can do in and around Galveston.
Glow Ride
Who: Family-friendly
What: Join Island Bicycle Company every third Thursday as they ride into the night “Glow Ride” style. Each month they’ll pick a different route.

When: Recurring every Thursday starting Thursday, September 1 from 6:30 pm until 9:00 pm

Sunrise Yoga on The Beach
Who: Family-friendly
What: SUP Gulf Coast offers Yoga on the Beach every Saturday at Sunrise with friends from the Yoga Haven. Wake up with the sun surrounded by the sounds of the waves and birds. After yoga, grab a paddleboard or surfboard and venture out to see the dolphins or enjoy the waves. Bring a mat or towel.

When: Recurring every Saturday in September from 7:00 am to 8:00 am

East Beach Bird Walk
Who: Family-friendly
What: Join American Bird Conservancy on this free guided walk with a local bird expert around the dune and shoreline habitat of East Beach’s conservation area. Observe and learn about the multiple species of birds nesting in the protected dune habitat, as well as the birds feeding and resting along the beach shoreline that loops around the South Jetty and Houston Ship Channel. Expect a 2-mile walk round-trip.

Music Nite on the Strand – Beatles Tribute
Who: Family-friendly
What: Get a taste of Galveston’s thriving local music scene with this free live concert series at Saengerfest Park, hosted by Mitchell Historic Properties and Stuttgarden Tavern on the Strand.

Movies on The Beach
Who: Family-friendly
What: Movies on the Beach is sponsored by the Galveston Park Board of Trustees. The films are as follows: The Princess and the Frog (9/10 at Stewart Beach), 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (9/17 at Dellanera RV Park), and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (9/24 at East Beach).

When: Various dates. See above. Movies start at 8:30 pm and are slated to end around 11:00 pm.
Tickets: $15 per car. Those parking at Seawolf Park will pay $6 for admission.
Pirates in the Park
Who: Family-friendly
What: This FREE concert will feature The Bilge Pumps, a pirate band with a bit of a bay area following from yearly appearances at Mardi Gras Galveston and Dickens on the Strand, as well as area shows at the Lone Star Pirate Festival and the Railean Distillery.

Women in Coastal Science Speaker Series
Who: Family-friendly
What: Be inspired to make a difference. Meet the women who tackle the challenges our coastal environment faces. From rescuing marine mammals and sea turtles to studying the impacts of extreme conditions on our Gulf shores, these women in science will share their journeys in their fields of expertise. Light refreshments provided. Breakfast cocktails and small bites available for purchase.

Galveston Island Shrimp Festival
Who: Family-friendly
What: Galveston Island is a seafood lover’s paradise all year round, but in September, Yaga’s Entertainment Inc. brings foodies a little taste of heaven at the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival. Featuring some of the best shrimp gumbo the Gulf Coast has to offer, the festival features a seafood cook-off, gumbo tasting, L’il Shrimps Parade, live music, a children’s area, and a Strand merchant walkabout.

Shrimp Scamper 5k Fun Run
Who: Family-friendly
What: Registration includes a festival t-shirt & participation medal (limited to the first 400 runners), FREE BEER, swag & more! All fitness levels and ages are invited to join in this non-competitive event. Costumes and teams are strongly encouraged! Scamper your way down Galveston’s beautiful Seawall & follow it up with a day of good eats & drinks! A portion of proceeds goes to our wonderful beneficiary, The Justin Hughes Fund @ UTMB. The Justin Hughes Fund @ UTMB raises awareness and provides assistance to medical students experiencing depression.
